FACULTY WORKSHOP on Failure Case Studies in the Civil Engineering Curriculum
The University of Colorado at Denver (UCD) will be hosting a one-day workshop on Faculty Workshop on Failure Case Studies in the Civil Engineering Curriculum on Friday, July 20, 2007. We can accommodate up to 50 participants. Registration fee is $149 which includes course materials and lunch. In this workshop, five members of the American Society of Civil Engineers Technical Council on Forensic Engineering (TCFE) Education Committee will present cases and teaching techniques based on ten years of investigation into integrating failure case studies into engineering courses. The cases to be covered will include:
Other topics include developing courses in forensic engineering, and integrating failure studies in capstone design. Course materials provided will include:
This is a follow up to highly successful similar workshops conducted at the University of Alabama at Birmingham on July 12, 2003 and at Cleveland State University (CSU) on September 17, 2004, July 15, 2005, October 6, 2006. Faculty who have attended these previous workshops have implemented these case studies into engineering programs across the U.S. For more information or to register for the course, contact Kevin Rens at UCD, kevin.rens@cudenver.edu or 303-556-8017. Workshop information can be found at http://www.csuohio.edu/civileng/faculty/delatte/new_case_studies_project/csuweb.htm
The workshop is funded by ASCE using materials developed through a grant by the National Science Foundation entitled “Developing Case Studies in Failures and Ethics for Engineering Educators.” Course instructors include Norb Delatte and Paul Bosela, CSU, Kevin Rens, University of Colorado at Denver, Kevin Sutterer, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, and others. |
